Braitling Primary School is located to the north of the main business centre of Alice Springs. The school is adjacent to the Alice Springs School of the Air. The school is committed to encouraging lifelong learning as a key value for both students and staff. We believe it is important to teach young people the value of respecting and sharing different viewpoints. We take every opportunity to celebrate diversity and recognise the importance of tolerance both at school and in the wider community. This year, 36 senior students travelled to Canberra where they saw 'democracy in action'. Significant fundraising was undertaken by the Braitling community in order to raise funds for this trip. Student leadership is seen as a key function of the school and we currently have school captains, house captains, a Student Representative Council and Junior Indigenous Leaders Program. Braitling Primary School aims to provide a stable, caring and safe environment. It offers a broad educational program which encourages excellence in student learning across all key learning areas. Staff are committed to ongoing professional development and this year have completed training in how to implement the First Steps program in Numeracy as well as in Reading and Writing. The teaching staff includes two teachers of exemplary practice. The Principal is one of 40 school leaders involved in the Leading Australia's Schools program. The Assistant Principal is part of a High Potential School Leaders program facilitated by the Northern Territory Centre for School Leadership, Learning and Development. Additional learning support programs include QuickSmart Maths and the use of software programs such as Mathletics and Reading Eggs which can be accessed at school and at home. Participation in initiatives such as the One Laptop Per Child program gives students additional ways of sharing their learning at home with their families and siblings.
