Fawkner Primary School is a school with approximately 180 students and the equivalent of 13 full time teachers. It offers a comprehensive education in a safe, secure and happy school climate. The school places special emphasis on the basics of reading, writing and mathematics, as well as offering a wide variety of specialist classes, currently Phys. Ed, ICT, Italian and Art. The school places special emphasis on ensuring each child develops strong Reading skills, as we stronglly believe that this is the key to successful learning. We implement a number of specific Reading initiatives including the Accelerated Reader program. Our emphasis on reading has proven very successful with outstanding results in all Language areas. The school has a fully networked Computer Lab, as well as a bank of laptop computers in each grade which are used as part of our everyday programs and as part of our Technology program. Fawkner Primary places great emphasis on activity-based learning where the children learn by doing. This is particularly so in our Personal Development and social skills programs which the children enjoy immensely. The school has developed a comprehensive program that operates from Grade Prep-6, concentrating on improving the knowledge and decision-making in personal growth, health and nutrition,and generally helping children learn how to make positive lifestyle choices. We also offer comprehensive Swimming and Camping programs. In 2010 construction began on our new building with 4 classes and common areas as part of the BER program which should be completed by mid 2011.
