Dandenong West Primary School specifically designs its programs to meet the wide range of abilities and needs of our community, students and families. The school is committed to providing a friendly and caring environment that enables all students to become effective members of the global society. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of a large group of students newly-arrived in Australia and facing the challenges of learning English. At the same time, the school is committed to providing stimulating and challenging programs in all areas for students whose English skills are strong. The school provides a phased English as a Second Language program, a Literacy Intervention program for students at risk of not reaching expected standards, and extra support and coaching for classroom teachers. Dandenong West Primary School offers its 270 students a safe and stimulating learning environment. Our students respond with exemplary behaviour and a great enthusiasm for learning. Our teachers work together in teams to ensure consistency and to provide an exciting and flexible learning program designed to meet students’ individual learning needs. The school has established relationships with a range of community agencies who offer a range of programs for students and families. These include: Good Beginnings Playgroup, Active Families, and Urban Neighbours of Hope lunchtime activities. There is a strong partnership between parents and staff, with agreed support for the school's emphasis on academic achievement and good citizenship.
