St Brigid’s is a Catholic primary school situated in Kilburn, South Australia. The school facilities were rebuilt in recent years, including a new Middle Years Learning Centre. Currently enrolments stand at 234 students, coming from a rich diversity of cultures and religious traditions. St Brigid’s School is a place of Love, Peace and Learning, underpinned by our Catholic Tradition, Culture and Faith. Through a collaborative partnership with staff, students, parents and the wider community, we endeavour to develop each child’s individuality, giftedness and talents. At St Brigid’s School we are a unique community of learners who are continuously building connections with local and global communities. Our community is focussed on building positive identities in all our learners through our relationships with others in a safe, supportive and challenging environment. The learning programme provides opportunities for students, staff and families who are active and responsible citizens to make informed choices and decisions as lifelong learners. School improvement strategies include extensive literacy and numeracy professional learning which involves case managing students across the school. We also extend this learning to our students’ parents and caregivers, encouraging them to attend our information sessions on the literacy and numeracy curriculum, how children learn, and strategies for supporting their child at home. Recent developments in our school community include a playgroup, a gardening project and a weekly breakfast club. We have also recently formed a group of parents trained as ‘foodies’ to support teachers and families to learn about healthy eating.
