Glencoe Central Primary School is a small rural school located in an idyllic farming district set amongst a backdrop of beautiful pine trees. Glencoe is situated midway between Mount Gambier, Millicent and Kalangadoo and is approximately 20 minutes drive from the nearest main centre, Mount Gambier. The community is a mixture of farming (dairies, orchards and livestock) and residents on small allotments. Kimberley Clark Australia and timber mills are also main employer groups. All new students transition from the Glencoe Kindergarten and all students enrolled at the school come from within the Glencoe township. Our school opened in 1972, amalgamating the Glencoe East and West Schools and is situated in the south-east of the township. We are committed to providing high quality learning, teaching and care, with a focus on continuous improvement and high quality education and care. Our core values of confidence, respect, responsibility and personal excellence are central to our improvement focus and guide our plans, actions and relationships. Our school development priorities are focused on ensuring students achieve high levels of functional English, mathematics and technology needed in today’s world. Our current student enrolment is approximately 50, enabling closer relationships amongst students and staff as well as more individualised teaching and learning programs. From 2012, the Glencoe Kindergarten will move on site sharing a brand new purpose-built learning area with the Junior Primary class. This is viewed as an opportunity to promote positive relationships and a greater sense of community, and create a seamless transition from kindergarten to school. We run a successful, sustainable and ecological gardening program and all students are involved in weekly, structured rotations including seed propagation, animal and plant care and healthy cooking.
