Heywood Consolidated School is situated in south western Victoria on an extensive site 2.5 kilometres from the town centre of Heywood (population 1200) and is 25 kilometres north of Portland. Our school has 11 teachers and 6 support staff implementing rigorous teaching and learning strategies to lift literacy and numeracy standards. Together they operate 7 classrooms and provide specialist teaching in Physical Education, Music, LOTE (Indonesian), Reading Recovery, and Art. We have strong music, performing arts, and sporting programs and our school has gained many awards in these areas. We also have a full time Business Manager. Our local Koorie community is an important aspect of our school and we have close links with the Windamara Corporation. Koorie students comprise about 18 % of our total enrolment. We share a Koorie Educator with the Heywood and District Secondary College and we have embraced the opportunities outlined in the Wannik Report. Heywood Consolidated School aims to provide a positive and caring environment that enhances learning, supports opportunities and promotes well being for all students; creates a stimulating environment for all staff; and values and involves community input. We are well resourced with ideal facilities to serve the needs of the community. Strong community spirit and a proactive School Council and Parents Club have ensured the best possible learning environment for our children.
