Winters Flat Primary School, dating back one hundred and fifty years to the gold rush days is located on the western edge of Castlemaine. Current enrolments is 225 students, with a small number of Koorie students (5%) and a high percentage of families who receive EMA, although the school's Student Family Occupation index is 0.45. Since 2007, the school has completed significant building and grounds improvements, including the recently opened BER ( 6 classroom learning resource) building. Other buildings include purpose built library and art room, out of school hours mod 5, stadium, and adjoining commercial kitchen. The grounds boast a beautiful, heritage listed grove of Valonia Oaks, large outdoor playing areas and a new fitness track. The entrance to the school has been rejuvenated to reflect the school's focus on a student centred, welcoming and supportive place of learning. The school is proud of its efforts to put in place programs and assessment tools to nurture and track children's progress in the areas of Social, Physical, Academic, Creative and Emotional Well-being. Hence our children refer to Winters Flat as a S.P.A.C.E. school.
