Majella Catholic Primary School (Majella) is a single stream co-educational school catering for 190 children from Kindergarten to Year Six. The school is part of the Catholic Parish of Mirrabooka and offers a holistic education embracing the spiritual, religious, intellectual, physical, cultural, social and emotional development of all students. The school’s mission statement reads, “Majella Catholic Primary School offers an education which nurtures the uniqueness of each person within a Christian community. The dignity and rights of each individual and the environment are respected and enriched through the living of Gospel values”. The school’s motto, ‘United in Christ’ reflects the belief that, through the Word of God, we are one family united in faith and purpose. Majella is well resourced and is part of the RAISe (Raising Achievement in Schools) program and the EMU (Extending Mathematical Understanding) program. Both programs assist staff with making data informed decisions regarding the progress of every student in literacy and numeracy. The school has the support of an English as a Second Language teacher as well as a Reading Recovery teacher to assist in catering for the needs of its culturally and linguistically diverse cohort. Majella has a specialist 'The Arts' program which includes music, visual arts, media, dance and drama. The school has an up-to-date computer lab and students receive specialist computer lessons each week. All classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard and computers. RAINBOWS and PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills) are offered to assist with the emotional wellbeing of all students. Additionally, Majella is a part of the CAPS (CAMHS and Primary Schools) project which is focused on supporting students’ mental health and well-being. CAPS brings together specialist staff to work closely with Primary Schools, School Psychology Services, families and students to help children grow and develop.
