Flagstaff Hill Reception-Year 7 School is enjoying its third year of operation following the amalgamation of the Primary and Junior Primary Schools at the end of 2009. Flagstaff Hill R-7 School is committed to realising the long-held belief and philosophy that all of our children are capable of achieving a high level of success, academically, socially and emotionally. Therefore the staff, in partnership with parents and the wider community, are fostering with each child to reach their full potential by empowering them to become respectful citizens and to achieve their academic potential. We aim to be regarded as a community bound by strong, positive relationships, high academic achievement and a sense of working together towards this common purpose. This is achieved by modelling our core values of respect, trust, honesty, friendship, and caring. Our student's are vertically grouped in classes from Reception to Year 7. We commenced 2011 with 15 classes housed in open space and single teaching units. Our students are able to utilise the spacious and picturesque grounds that border the leafy Flagstaff Hill community and Sturt Gorge. We offer specialist programs in Japanese, physical education, music and art. In 2012 we have built on significant intervention specifically in reading, writing and spelling for students identified at greatest risk of not being engaged or achieving strong academic results. We also have a strong focus on children's sport and wellbeing, continued through to our out-of-school-hours sports program. During 2011 we continued to build access to e-learning and the use of information and communication technologies. Children are utilising new skills, not only in how to locate information but to present their learning in ways that allow them to express their knowledge of these digital technologies that now shape their world.
