Peter Lalor Secondary College planned to merge with Thomastown Secondary College in July, 2010 and therefore did not take Year 7 enrolments in 2010. A new school was planned on the Thomastown site. Most of the college’s energies in Semester One concentrated on planning with Thomastown for the new school curriculum, policies, programs, values buildings and resources. Thomastown Secondary College withdrew from the process after the May budget. After much consideration and consultation, the College decided to continue as a Year 10-12 Applied Learning Precinct, offering VET and VCAL programs only. Our data in 2010 for all performance measures is similar to other government schools despite our small numbers. We focused on Numeracy and Literacy with the employment of Literacy strategies such as Corrective Reading, Making a Difference and Cars and Stars. Teachers working in triads reflected on their own and each other's teaching strategies in the classroom. The building of teacher and leadership capacity from participation in the regional Achievement Improvement Zones project has informed this process. In Semester 1, 2010 the school had 27.6 full time staff: 2 Principal class, 19.2 teachers and 6.4 Education Support staff.
