Lowanna is the largest single campus College in the Latrobe Valley with a student population of approximately 1100. Established in 1994, the college is located in Newborough and draws its enrolments from Moe/Newborough and the surrounding rural townships. Lowanna College is committed to promoting student achievement, fostering positive relationships and catering for individual differences. Students are offered a vast range of choices in both academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities. The College is proud of the breadth of opportunities made available to students in the areas of, Music, Outdoor Education, the Camps program, Sporting events and many other extra-curricular pursuits. The College is organised into three Mini Schools which operate from separate locations on the campus; each location provides designated outdoor areas specific to the year levels for which they cater. The mini schools are administered by a dedicated Assistant Principal and coordination team. Each has its own specific Teaching and Learning approach directed towards the age group and year levels at which they operate. Students in the Junior School work in Learning Centres where groups of students are extended academically and socially, developing their ability range at a level appropriate to their capacity. Middle School provides students with the opportunity to explore their skills and interests in preparation for future learning. Middle school also provides opportunities for students to explore specific areas of interest in greater depth through our projects program. Within the Senior School students are counselled to select a more focussed program through VET, VCAL & VCE which channels them towards their career goals. Lowanna offers the opportunity for each student to pursue their chosen pathway within a supportive environment. Participation in an extensive careers program is a key component of student studies. Students are asked to reflect on future goals and career choices from year 9 onwards. They revisit their goals..
