Pakenham Secondary College is a Year 7 to 12 College located on Melbourne's South East fringe. Its history as the central state secondary school in a rural township has been overshadowed by the growth of Melbourne's urban sprawl and the College is now an outer metropolitan secondary school serving a diverse community within a designated growth corridor. A recent building upgrade has provided good student learning faciities that link with the spacious and attractive grounds. The College has a current enrolment of 870 students, including an increasing number of students who have a language background other than English. It is located in the Cardinia Shire which is expected to see significant growth in the next twenty years. In 2009, a new leadership team was appointed and the College has been rebuilding with a strong focus on learning outcomes, student welfare and building pathways for students beyond secondary school. The staffing profile includes a healthy mix of experienced teachers and recent graduates. The school is committed to providing all students with learning opportunities designed to develop socially responsible citizens and to build pathways to their futures. It has a strong Careers team that supports students in making the transition from secondary school to employment, university or to further education and training. To achieve this aim, students in their senior years at Pakenham Secondary College have available to them the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or a variety of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. This reflects the school's clear aim that every student will have successfully completed at least one formal educational qualification before leaving Pakenham Secondary College.
