William Ruthven Secondary College was established at the beginning of 2010 from the merger of the former Merrilands College and Lakeside Secondary College. The College operated on two sites, one in Radford Road, Reservoir and the second in Merrilands Road, Reservoir. During the last week of term four, 2010 the Radford Road campus was decanted onto the Merrilands Road site in preparation for the College's single campus setting in 2011. The construction of a twenty first century language centre, refurbishment of the gym, music and drama infrastructure is currently underway on the Merrilands Road site. During 2010 the College developed an innovative inquiry curriculum in tandem with best practice literacy and numeracy provision. The college's focus on literacy, numeracy and curiosity is in line with the Northern Metropolitan Region's Powerful Learning approach. The school has 56 teachers, 17 education support staff and 3 principal class officers. Our community is multi-cultural, economically and socially diverse. Engagement with the community and promotion of life-long learning with students, parents and teachers as co-learners and co-leaders is central to our work.
