St John Bosco School is a Catholic school that was founded in 1953 by the Salesian Sisters and is very conscious of its Salesian ethos and roots. Situated in the inner western suburb of Brooklyn Park within 4km of the CBD, it has grown steadily over the years to a population in 2011 of 335 students. In 2011, with the assistance of the BER program, it undertook the first stage of a rebuilding process which included a new Library, Computer Suite, Teachers’ Resource, Inclusive Education facility, Administration and Staff Facilities and a classroom unit for Junior Primary students. In 2012 it is pushing ahead with Stage 2 which will entail a new Junior Primary classroom block. St John Bosco School provides a full Religious Education program and supports the Parish and its students with a Sacramental Program in collaboration with the Parish Priest. The school is recognised for its holistic approach to Education where it presents a strong academic program with a focus on Literacy and Numeracy, but it is also known for the quality of its Physical Education program, its Japanese teaching and its support for the Performing Arts in its curriculum. The school also supports its community by providing its facilities for the operation of three Ethnic Schools; Greek, Italian and Farsi. We offer a number of after school sporting options including Soccer, Basketball, Cricket, T-ball, Netball and when sufficient interest, Chess. Of these, soccer is by far the most popular, but they all depend on the generous support of parents. We have a very enthusiastic Parents & Friends Committee that organises many family friendly activities throughout the year. Before and after school care are available at St John Bosco and we also operate a very popular Vacation Care Service during each holiday break.
