At Allenby Gardens Primary school we are committed to providing an inclusive, stimulating student-centred learning environment with additional support for those with special needs. We foster strong relationships across our school community, committed to physical and emotional wellbeing for all. Our R-7 campus features a school-based preschool and out of school hours care. Students come from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures, including a small Aboriginal population and refugee groups. This diversity is evidenced by 41% of our community for whom English is a second language – an aspect of our school that brings wonderful cross-cultural benefits as we strive to incorporate, share and celebrate all cultures. This diversity is further acknowledged by the provision of Greek and Serbian mother tongue languages. We are committed to translating our vision into practice by building on skills and educating our young people to develop resilience and global awareness in an environment of trust and support. We have a strong emphasis on well-being, focused on restorative practice and the successful attainment of literacy, numeracy and science concepts being everyone’s responsibility. Acknowledging that ‘teachers make the greatest difference to student achievement’ we resource two teacher mentoring programs in literacy and numeracy. These programs enable teachers to work beside experts and engage in ongoing conversations that enable them to build their capacity as high quality educators. This has been extremely successful resulting in ongoing improvement in both our NAPLAN results but more importantly in the comprehensive data that we gather at a school level which enables us to reflect on the effectiveness of our practice in reading, writing, spelling and mathematics.
