Ashburton's aim is to make every child's educational journey a positive, enriching experience and equip them with the skills to actively contribute to their 21st Century environment. We achieve this through creating a dynamic learning environment that encourages students to become active learners who are committed to personal success in education, work and life and are responsible citizens of the global community. Through parents, students and teachers working together this cn be achieved. Our students are encouraged to strive for high academic success, acquire and practise higher order thinking skills, utilise ICT skills and develop self confidence, responsiblilty and co-operative skills. A spirit of mutual respect and support is underpinned by our whole school approach linking learning and student wellbeing. Ashburton has 500 students and is located 12 km east from Melbourne. This school has thirty-nine equivalent full-time staff, two Principal class, thirty-one teachers and six education support staff. Parents have high aspirations for their children and enthusiastically support programs and fund raising activities. In 2010, the school went through a School Review process developing a new Strategic Plan for 2010- 2014. The school is in the process of a redevelopment and refurbishment under the Victorian Schools Program. The school has embarked on buildign the new gymnasium complex with Economic Stimulus funds. The new learning spaces will reflect 21st Century teaching and learning practices which will improve outcomes for all students
