Bethany is a close knit focussed learning community that values the development and growth of high standards in all aspects of learning. Teachers promote individual worth, regardless of ability, by fostering understanding and care through service and teamwork. Literacy and numeracy are central to learning and receive special emphasis. Literacy is the pathway that provides access to the broad spectrum of knowledge that is available to us through many avenues (media). In 2010, the Learning Hub was built featuring a Learning Plaza, Media Room and Library (BER). It is significant that the building is the biggest on site and central to all classes. Our new Librarian, commencing in 2011, will take on the role as advocate for Literacy in the curriculum and also teach a Literacy Journey Group. The importance of play and love of learning is recognised for character development. Worship and Christian Studies form an integral part of the program. An holistic approach provides an opportunity for the children to thrive in the context of restorative behavioural practices. The 'You Can Do It' program is linked to personal development through the reporting process. The unique features of the school include teaching through an Integrated Stage Based Program, camps linked to the integrated themes, an instrumental music program, junior and senior choirs, formal swimming instruction, German and library skills. The school's buses support the program in sport and co-curricular activities. New air-conditioned facilities provide a quality learning environment. Staff members are key learners and value Professional Development. We use evidence based data in planning to maximise student achievement. IWBs are used in each classroom and in the Library teaching area and the Learning Plaza. iPad Readers are being trialled for their usefulness in 2011.
