St Therese's Primary School services the southern growth corridor of Cairns. Situated in Bentley Park, a southern suburb of Cairns, the school is continuing to grow each year. This growth is expected to increase into the future when the school is expected to reach full four-stream status. In 2015, Year 7 students will be moving to our local secondary schools. This move will support Year 7 students in reaching their full potential, providing resources and pedagogical practices to assist in the implementation of the Australian Curriculum. The parent body consists largely of parents whose work profiles are linked to tourism or associated industries. There are some forty-two nationalities comprising a diverse student population, most of them second or third generation Australians. The Sisters of Mercy and Priests of the Cairns Diocese were foundational members of St Therese's School with the Sisters of Mercy being present on staff until 1976.We recognise our founding members of the school as members of our school community who established strong values and qualities that we expect from our current students, staff and parents. Our current Parish Priest, Rev Fr John McGrath, takes a keen interest in all matters pertaining to the religious and pastoral life of the school and regularly conducts school and class Masses. In 2011, the final stages of the school’s development occurred. This included new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a contemporary library and refurbishment of general administration areas. St Therese's School offers nine Learning Area (LA's): Religious Education, Mathematics, English, Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE), Science, Technology, The Arts and Languages Other Than English.
