Newtown State School was established in 1924. Our local community consists of mainly older timber homes, approximately one kilometre from the city centre of Toowoomba. We offer a co-educational program that meets the needs of students from Prep to Year 7. We have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, and the ongoing improvement of every child in our care. ICTs are used as a valuable learning tool across the school. Students, staff and parents have worked together to design and implement a school based positive behaviours program. It is known as TREAT (Through Respect Everyone Achieves Together). It gives clear focus to all on the behaviour choices we make and the consequences that match them. We are active in our community with children participating in extra- curricular activities outside the school. Our school is also highly regarded for the exceptional ANZAC services that are run by our students each year. Parents play a key role in our school and together we all work to ensure that our focus is on improving student learning. Our school community is indeed a strong one, that promotes our school as not only a place of learning, but also a hub of care for all.
