St Michael's School is situated in Gordonvale, a rural country town, south of Cairns City. St Michael's achieves its mission by supporting the education of the whole person in the context of a faithful and loving Catholic community. The core values identified by the community are Respect, Trust, Faith, Learning and Community. The school has a strong focus on the social-emotional well being of students and promotes the explicit teaching of social-emotional learning within the whole school environment. Students from St Michael's are involved in the community through participation in local events and sporting teams, with some students representing the school at regional level. Instrumental music is offered and approximately 25% of students undertake this extra-curricular activity. A number of students have participated in external examinations throughout the year with achievement in the range of satisfactory to high distinction levels. Within the Curriculum there is a focus on Mathematics and English, as well as the key learning area of Science. Students in need of extra support have access to small groups or individual assistance through our Learning Support program. St Michael's offers counseling to enhance student learning and social-emotional development.
