Irymple South Primary School is located in a scenic semi rural setting 12 kilometres from Mildura. Enrolments have steadily increased during the past year to reach a current enrolment of 225 students. The school takes great pride in its carefully maintained, well equiped buildings and classrooms. Federal and State Government funding in 2009-2010 has provided the school with a new double classroom complex and extension of the community funded multipurpose room. The extensive grounds cover an area of approximately 2.6 hectares. There is provision for active and passive play and extensive shaded areas. The school focus on the environment is evident by the vegetable gardens, hen house, worm farms, water tanks and solar panels together with the various awards won through the Victorian Schools Garden Awards. There are nine classes including both single year and multi-age classrooms. Teachers work in teaching teams to plan programs, analyse data and moderate student work weekly. There is a proven performance and development culture in the school which is embedded in the daily operations of the school. Reading Recovery is provided for selected grade one students and there is a strong framework for monitoring, identifying and supporting all 'at risk' students in the school. The timetable is structured to ensure regular coaching for identified teachers and a strong emphais on professional learning through a Peer Observation model. The school has 13.5 equivalent full-time staff: 1 Principal class, 15 teachers and 2.4 Education Support Staff.
