South Fremantle Senior High School is a co-educational school for students aged 13-17 years located 5 kilometres from the port city of Fremantle. The school has strongly represented the interests of the students of greater Fremantle for over 40 years. The multi-cultural diversity, rich maritime environment and vibrant artistic community are reflected in the school's motto Character - have enriched the learning of all students and allowed a range of programs to be offered. Achieving Top Public School Awards during 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006, the school is proud to be Australia's first Carbon Neutral school. Introducing many measures to reduce energy consumption, water usage, waste production and Greenhouse gas emissions, students also take part in Sustainable Living Projects including a Seed to Tree Program where students annually plant up to 10,000 trees in local communities. South Fremantle Senior High School is an Approved Specialist Programs School in Marine Studies, Music and Baseball. Competitive entry and selection processes incorporate academic and physical aptitude testing, interview and/or audition. Students in Marine Studies earn their Recreational Skippers Ticket, SCUBA dive and sail whilst students in the Music Program enjoy the Calvert Music Centre, a state-of-the-art music facility with amphitheatre, rehearsal rooms and digital recording studio. Baseball students enjoy working with their teacher, an Olympic level player and graduates have entered either the National Baseball Academy or competition in the USA. Students from across WA are eligible to apply for these programs. As a small caring school, the needs of a wide range of students are met, with an Autism Extension Centre catering for high functioning autistic students to a wide range of courses in Vocational Training and Courses of Study that allow students access to University entrance.
