Newerella Primary School is a rural school that is a welcoming and proud school community. Enrolments have increased from 55 in 2008 to 75 in 2010. Over 40% of our enrolments have transferred into our school from other schools. 55% of our students travel to school by bus along three bus routes. We are a school of choice for 25% of our students who are driven to school from Orbost. Our school's purpose is to inspire children to achieve to their full potential and make a positive contribution to the local and global community by developing: positive and respectful relationships, a culture of performance and development, a welcoming, caring, stimulating and happy learning environment, a challenging and engaging curriculum, highly effective and purposeful teaching and learning and a commitment by all in our school community to the values of Caring, Honesty, Learning and Excellence. In almost all areas, this reports suggests that our results are similar to other schools after accounting for background characteristics. The area that we are lower in is for teacher assessment from the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) for 2009. Our current focus is to improve Literacy and Numeracy outcomes through working closely with our local cluster of small schools to implement Effective Teaching strategies and the integration and implementation of the Munro, Highly Reliable Teaching Procedures into all learning areas. We are also working to further deepen our understanding of improved teaching and learning guided by the East Gippsland Effective Teaching Framework .
