Deer Park North Primary School is located in the western suburbs of Melbourne serving some 408 students within a diverse multicultural community. The school is committed to the notion that ‘all children can learn’ and therefore seeks to improve learning opportunities for all its students. A balanced curriculum is provided across the Domains, with a strong emphasis on the development of literacy, numeracy and personal & interpersonal skills. To this end the school's work force is made up of 31 EFT teachers and 12 ES support staff. The school leadership profile is reflective of the strong emphasis on student learning headed by the principal. Two assistant principals share responsiblities across Curriculum & School Management with two leading teacher coaches being closely aligned. The school recognises the importance of student wellbeing and holds dear the five community agreed values of Respect, Trust, Care, Honesty & Responsibility. A social development program is also offered across the school. Government funding has seen the school's facilities receive a needed boost. The recently completed renovations that provide four large contemporary learning spaces funded under the National Partnership program have been well received. Construction of a new gymnasium commenced mid way through the school year and is earmarked for completion early 2011. Based on both NAPLAN & teacher judgement, student outcomes data continues to show improvement. There is much being done to develop teacher capacity. This is consistent with the Western Region Blueprint for Improvement Strategy.
