Exmouth is a small coastal community situated in the remote North West of WA about 1300km from Perth. The town depends heavily on tourism for its existence and is characterised by being the gateway to the Ningaloo Reef. Exmouth DHS caters for approximately 370 students offering primary and secondary education for students from 4 to 17 years old. The school population includes many nationalities but is not marked by cultural or ethnic diversity. As the nearest school is 370km away in Carnarvon, the enrolment at EDHS cuts across all social and economic barriers. With over 50 experienced staff, the specialised needs of the various year levels and secondary subject areas ably covered. There is a range of special programs that targets student needs and interest. These include drama, skills for life, TAFE links and cadets. The community is very supportive of the school and it enjoys very good relations with parent body. A recent review of the school facilities has resulted in the school beginning an extensive building upgrade with an allocation of approximately $17 million. This will start in 2009 with a completion date set for the beginning of 2012. Exmouth DHS has an exciting future.
