St Vincent de Paul Catholic primary school is located in Morwell, in the Latrobe Valley, approximately two hours east of Melbourne. St Vincent de Paul School has an enrolment of approximately 260 students. The school was originally established in 1957 by the Sisters of St Joseph. The school continues the charism of the Sisters, providing a quality Catholic education to its students. Our school population is diverse and we have families from a range of economic situations, a significant percentage are eligible for the Education Maintenance Allowance. In recent years we have enjoyed a growth in the number of Sudanese families enrolling at our school. All classrooms have been refurbished to provide bright, modern and spacious learning areas. Other recent works include a library extension, synthetic turf soccer field, new gymnasium and playground re-development. Three key areas are our constant focus: religious education, quality teaching and learning, and student wellbeing. Our teachers are committed to enhancing the learning for our children. Since 2007 we have participated in the following professional development initiatives Kidsmatter: St Vincent's is a pilot school for this preventative mental health and wellbeing approach Oral Language research project (OLSEL) to improve oral language skills especially in the early years. Extending Mathematical Understanding Years 3 & 5 Choice Theory: an approach to behaviour management that supports the development of self control and self discipline The school plays an important role in the community by providing a playgroup and an active after-school program. Our school is highly regarded in the local community and this is a testament to the dedication of the staff and continued support from parents.
