The modern buildings and park-like grounds of Thomastown Primary provide an attractive and welcoming environment. The addition of three classrooms and a project space under the BER will further enhance facilities. Enrolments are slowly declining. The area is one of high mobility. There are more boys in the school than girls. The school community is a socially,culturally and economically diverse group with around 77% of students from a background other than English and over 33 language groups represented. Both these figures are an increase on previous years. 19% of students are newly arrived to Australia, 9% of these are African with little or no schooling in their previous country. Much time and effort is spent on the students developing an understanding of the School's Values of Co-operation, Responsibility, Excellence, Respect and Honesty. The school continues to work on improvement in English and Maths and the provision of a safe environment where students have maximum opportunities to experience a quality learning environment with effective pathways and transitions. The school has 13.3 equivalent of full time staff : 2 Principal Class and 8 Education Support staff. National Partnerships money continues to be used to build teacher capacity in Literacy and Numeracy interventions.
