Our school vision is 'Learning for Living' and we promote a rigorous, futures oriented curriculum that prepares students to be active and responsible citizens and provides challenging, diverse pathways in an ever changing world. Wodonga West Primary is an urban school typified by families with English speaking backgrounds and low to mid socio-economic status. There is a diverse range of occupations and aspirations. We have a small number of English as Second Language students. At the beginning of 2011 we opened our federally funded BER learning centre which marks the beginning of our rebuilding program to be funded by the State Government. This innovative and flexible learning space is utilised by the majority of our Prep-2 students and features a new Resource Centre. Comprehensive literacy and numeracy programs are the foundation of our curriculum which also features an emphasis on Learning Technologies(ICT) utilised as a powerful and engaging learning and teaching tool. Practical literacy and numeracy are also incorporated in our 'Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden program'. Specialist subjects, taught from Prep to Year 6 are the Visual and Performing Arts and Physical Education. In 2011 we are also offering Science as a specialist study. We have 4 Principal class (2 in a 0.5 Instructional Coaching role), three 0.5 Primary Maths Specialists, 18 classroom teachers and Education Support staff including a Student Wellbeing Officer and a Chaplain.
