Dandenong Primary School is over 135 years old and rich in history and traditions that give focus to many activities for a new generation of children from many parts of the world including Samoa, Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Serbia and Bosnia. Almost 80% of children come from homes where English is not the main language, 41 different languages are spoken and 154 families representing 224 students are supported by the Educational Maintenance Allowance. Our school’s SFO index is currently 0.7736. Enrolment has doubled in the last 16 years and is currently 319, including 8 International fee paying students. Our curriculum reflects the unique nature of our community with emphasis given to the development of the children’s English language and Numeracy skills. Considerable support is provided for students from non english speaking backgrounds.The school also places a strong focus on the children’s wellbeing. All teachers are members of a Professional Learning Team based on Strategic Plan priorities. The school provides specialist programs in Art, Music, French and Physical Education while classroom teachers conduct Library and ICT sessions. Dandenong Primary School provides children with the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, secure and supportive environment that encourages them to explore and question as they take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
