St Joseph's School, Cloncurry, is situated in Far West Queensland. It is geographically isolated, being 118km from Mt Isa and 800km from the regional centre, Townsville. With restricted and prohibitive transport costs, the town suffers from social isolation. This results in limited cultural interaction and minimal recreational facilities for young people although this is tempered with the rich history of the local area and the ample opportunities to experience the many natural wonders of the outback. We believe that every child is unique and gifted by God. Parents, students, staff, parish and local community, together seek to create a caring, Christian environment where the human dignity of each person is held sacred. Quality education is offered through a balanced curriculum, which is permeated by Gospel values. Through a wide range of experiences, each child is encouraged to grow to their full potential. Approximately 20% of our families are of Aboriginal heritage. They are an integral and rich part of the School's history and present life. St Joseph's School strives to bring the Gospel to the children and families of Cloncurry. The School is a sign of vitality in the local Parish of Saint Colman. The Parish contributes prayerfully and financially to the work of the school. We offer many extracurricular activities such as Active After School Care, School Band/Choir and Rock Pop Mime. Sports participation is also encouraged with opportunities for students to compete locally and at a district/ state level in a variety of sports.
