Modbury West School caters for a growing enrolment of approximately 350 students from Reception to Year 7 with nearly 20% of students from a non-English speaking background. Situated 15km north east of the Adelaide CBD, our school has extensive and beautifully maintained grounds that are highly valued by the school community. Features include native gardens, a Japanese garden, planting beds for student gardening, oval, junior primary playground, adventure playground for older children, shaded sandpit, and netball and basketball courts. Our teaching and learning spaces have been recently renovated and all have interactive whiteboards. Our new resource centre includes a computer room and research area. Our values of respect, cooperation, trust, honesty, tolerance and caring are at the heart of our learning and wellbeing programs. Our students and staff are enthusiastic learners who support and care for each other. We take pride in working with and supporting all of our students to learn the academic, emotional, social and behavioural skills to be able to leave us with the capabilities to succeed in future schooling and life beyond school. Our current academic focus is on the development of strong literacy skills, in particular comprehension across all learning areas. Through rigorous data collection processes we are able to identify students who require more support with their learning and are able to offer this through individual or small group work with our reading intervention teacher and skilled assistants. Our curriculum sits within the broad context of the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability Framework (SACSA). We are currently transitioning into the new Australian Curriculum.
