Port Broughton Area School is a Reception to Year 12 school situated in a coastal rural community. The school is an enterprising learning community that prepares young people for the future. A relevant, stimulating and broad-based curriculum is delivered by a dedicated and highly-skilled staff in conjunction with the wider community. We have an effective working relationship with the Port Broughton Kindergarten and close links to our local community. Clustering for flexible delivery and distance education is a priority. Social and professional interactions and resource-sharing are developed with neighbouring schools. We are currently developing a Trade Training Centre in partnership with Kadina Memorial High, Moonta Area School and John Pirie Secondary School. This will offer pathways in hospitality and auto (diesel) with direct links to employment within the diesel industry. Students are supported with school-based apprenticeships and TAFE courses. Our site improvement priorities are new curriculum initiatives, titeracy, technology for learning, and sustaining our school. We have a strong student wellbeing focus, supported by pastoral care programs, Program Achieve, a school counsellor and annual bullying audits. Year 12 SACE results have consistently been high with students attaining their first choice at university courses or their desired apprenticeship. Students leave our school demonstrating that they are community conscious citizens. Students have the opportunity to actively participate in the combined choir, which performs on stage at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide, our ensemble group, Student Representative Council (which develops student voice and leadership skills), sports and knockout competitions including athletics at a regional level and competitions in Adelaide. Various specialist sporting clinics visit the school each year. The learning program is enhanced by camps and excursions.
