Stirling North Primary School, located 7km from Port Augusta, offers students the opportunity to learn in a supportive setting. The school has a strong teaching focus on literacy, numeracy and ICT, as well as Health and PE, with a focus on healthy choices. We are part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Students are currently developing the garden with the kitchen due to be completed before the start of 2010. Students are also encouraged to focus on the values of respect, responsibility, honesty and achievement. A strong Student Voice group with representatives from each class meets weekly. The school encourages volunteers and works with the community to ensure that learning occurs outside the classroom too. The school has around 270 students, more than 40 of whom are recognised as being of Aboriginal descent. A strong focus on ensuring that Aboriginal perspectives are incorporated across the school occurs and is included in planning each term. A close working relationship exists between the school and the Children's Services Centre to ensure K-R transition occurs smoothly. Year 7 students are involved in a program to ensure that they are ready for high school.
