St Thomas More is a Reception to Year 7 Catholic primary school located in the City of Playford, to the north of Adelaide in South Australia. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1960 and in 2010 celebrated its 50th (Jubilee) year. Our Mercy charism calls us to care for the poor and disadvantaged, in our own area and the wider community, giving us a real focus on social justice. With our neighbouring Catholic schools we employ a community worker to help nurture and develop courses and support for the parent members of our community, which we hope, in turn, will help our students. The three Mercy schools in our parish work closely together and we have good pathways to our secondary colleges. Our curriculum embraces the eight learning areas of the SACSA Framework and includes a ninth area - Religious Education. As with all schools around the country we are about to move to the national curriculum. We have specialist teachers for Physical Education, ICT, Creative Arts and Chinese. Each classroom is well resourced, including Smartboards and is very comfortable with split system airconditioning and heating. Our new multipurpose hall includes a new Tuck Shop, OSHC service, toilets, sports and maintenance rooms. Currently we have a whole school focus on Numeracy, supported by the Communities Making a Difference project. Specialist programs include Program Achieve, Geckos, Buddies, After School Sports and our Earlybirds Coordination Programme. We also have a Playgroup and Early Learning Years (ELY) Programme. Our students participate in numerous Catholic and SAPSASA sporting carnivals and events. We also provide an OSHC and Vacation Care service. Students are expected to exercise leadership skills with senior students being involved on a number of committees. Each year seven student is also a Buddy Leader, caring for seven other students, one from each year level.
