Gawler Primary is a Reception to Year 7 school located in the Church Hill State heritage area of Gawler. It was one of the first eight model schools and was built in 1877 and opened in 1878. Our original school building and other original structures are State and National Estate heritage-listed items. The school also has a recently constructed teaching and administration block of eight classes. The new classes open on to a central learning area used to support classroom programs. All classes are well resourced with electronic white boards and computer access. Our core values are Success, Mutual Respect, Active Participation, Responsibility and Team Work (creating the acronym SMART). The school's students come from diverse backgrounds - approximately 45 per cent are eligible for the School Card, 10 per cent are Aboriginal students, seven per cent have disabilities and others are from families where parents have a professional background. Many students come to the school from the surrounding areas, however, many students live a considerable distance from the school, but have chosen to enrol at our school.
