Goornong Primary School is an energetic and friendly rural school 30km north of Bendigo. It is the hub of a hard working local community. In 2010, forty-six students worked in three classrooms: - P/1, 2/3 and 4/5/6. Teachers specialised in Literacy or Numeracy teaching, promoting a well planned, well assessed and well delivered individual curriculum. There are 3.8 EFTstaff; 1 Principal and 2.8 teaching staff. There was a strong focus on developing Information and Communication Technology skills with a 1:1.5 student: laptop ratio. SOSE, Art, PE, Library and Music were also provided. We provided Reading Recovery style support for Gr.1 students and 1:1 literacy and numeracy support for students in need. We have a plentiful yard area and working Environment Centre, housing poultry, a vegetable patch area and new sensory garden beds. A significant building upgrade is expected to be completed in 2011 when the students will move into a whole new school. We have strong parent involvement in daily reading, writing, computer work, Active After School Communities and a vibrant Parent's Club which raised significant funds for the school. We are a member of the Campaspe Cluster, encompassing swimming sports, cross country, arts performances, Grade 3/4 and 5/6 Camps, and shared literacy resources. Goornong PS is in the Bendigo Network of schools, and utilises this link to access professional development for teachers and Principal. We are proud of our small school and our enthusiastic and passionate teachers are always striving for continuous improvement.
