Windsor Gardens Vocational College, incorporating a centre for the hearing impaired, is one of the most dynamic secondary schools in SA. We strive to provide a positive learning environment for each student. Our aim of successfully motivating and inspiring young people to actively pursue their chosen education, training and employment pathway is being achieved as shown in the students’ post-school destination data. Students who enrol at the college come from many different primary schools and suburbs so we have a very strong transition program, including using current students as Windsor ‘ambassadors’, to ensure new students settle in quickly. We develop strong positive connections with parents so we can all work together to achieve the best for students. We have a committed staff team and we pride ourselves on building strong and supportive relationships with our students. Visitors comment on the “positive feel” to the college. This culture is built around our values of respect, trust and teamwork, which are reflected in all our work and underpin developing students as responsible young adults who understand different people’s perspectives and can work effectively by themselves or with others. Students are also able to become involved in many extra-curricular activities, exemplified by such initiatives as a comprehensive sports program in which we compete very enthusiastically and successfully, Pedal Prix (another award-winning involvement) and The Cheltenham-Windsor Exchange (a 47-year-old interstate sport/recreational exchange), which generates lots of laughter, fierce competition and long-standing friendships and memories. We have gained a national, state and district reputation as a leader in responsive, innovative and flexible secondary schooling, incorporating vocational training.
