Mother of God, a Catholic school in the parish of Albion was established in 1955 by the Brigidine Sisters. Although there is no longer a Brigidine presence on staff, the Brigidine Core Values continue to guide our ethos. In Brigidine education we endeavour to welcome all, especially the most vulnerable, and engender a love of learning, hope and purpose. We have approximately 92 students (Prep to Year 6). This comprises of about 30% from Africa (predominantly Sudan) and about 20% from an Asian heritage (predominantly Vietnamese). Other cultures represented in our school include Croatian, Maltese, Hungarian, Lebanese, Chinese, South American, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Greek, Filipino, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch and Anglo-Australian. While the majority were born in Australia, about 60% of our children speak a language other than English at home. Amongst the most recent arrivals, some children have had interrupted schooling, and many of the Sudanese parents have had limited experience of schooling in Sudan. Our school is richer for the many diverse cultures that make up our school community.
