Charthouse Primary School opened in 1991. It is located within the City of Rockingham some 50 km south of the Perth CBD. The school is close to the beaches of Warnbro Sound and serves a population who enjoy the ambiance that this environment generates. A number of families using the school have one or both parents working for the Defence Forces, particularly the Navy, as the school is within easy access to the major naval facility at Garden Island. The staff is stable, with most working at the school for five or more years. Our vision is for Charthouse to be the centre of quality learning within our community and that pupils are challenged, engaged and take pride in attending. This will be achieved when the Charthouse School Community shares common beliefs about learning and demonstrates respect, empathy and genuineness in all their interactions with others. The school has enjoyed a history of strong scholastic achievement and regularly enters Australia wide competitions where strong results are achieved. ICT is a major focus, with state of the art equipment utilised in the classrooms. Scholastic achievement is supplemented by a diverse physical education program, a well rounded arts program (Visual Art and Music) and Indonesian language for years 3-7. To cater for special interests there is a choir, a school band and many special sporting groups. The children's sense of civic responsibility is given every opportunity to develop and an active student leadership program is central to the school. Parent participation in the school is encouraged through the School Council and the Parents & Citizen's Association as well as numerous classroom assistance programs. The School Council is the major policy making vehicle for this school and works with the leadership team and teachers to support the school's future directions. The role of the P & C is to support the school's program by the provision of resourcing and to participate as partners with the school staff in creating a school environment that fosters excellence..
