Cooloongup Primary School is located in the City of Rockingham, 46 km south of Perth. It is set in a quiet bushland area away from the main roads. This school offers primary education for students from 4 to 13 years old. Our school is becoming increasingly multicultural. An aboriginal dance group has been formed to promote cultural awareness among students and the community. Student accommodation consists of twelve primary classrooms, two purpose built pre-primary centres and one transportable kindergarten. A computer laboratory and an enclosed undercover area are also available to support classroom learning programs. New buildings in 2010 have provided us with quality specialist areas for music and visual arts. Students have the opportunity to participate in environmental awareness programs such as a school vegetable gardens and activities associated with our Waterwise School status. Staff have developed a strong emphasis on pastoral care and the use of social skills programs having undertaken professional learning to implement the Tribes philosophy throughout the school community. Classroom Management and Instructional Strategies and Co-operative Learning are used effectively to provide an environment conducive to learning. Additional funding is used to encourage positive attitudes, active citizenship and academic success through a variety of innovative strategies. Parents, caregivers and members of the community volunteer their time and sponsorship to provide a daily Breakfast Club and Canteen as well as supporting other school activities.
