Nuriootpa Primary School is a medium-sized regional school in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, with an annual enrolment of between 300 and 330 students. We are in a picturesque location near the centre of the town, surrounded by trees with vineyards on one side and our large oval on the other. We have a large, flexible learning space as well as traditional single classrooms and a new four-class middle school building and hall. The school motto 'Key into Excellence' underpins our aims, which are to develop independent, lifelong and responsible learners both within our school and the wider community. Our values of respect, responsibility and excellence are encouraged from Reception to Year 7. We believe the most powerful and effective learning occurs when there is authentic engagement of all students through quality teaching and learning. Our main purpose is to provide quality learning for all. We have developed a model of connected curriculum that supports the meaningful integration of learning across all areas of the State and Australian curriculum and aims for deep knowledge and understanding. Students participate fully in learning programs that are relevant or significant to the student and community and are delivered in real contexts. Students and staff work together in aiming for individual and group excellence and the highest levels of achievement for all. We endeavour to ensure that each learner will have access to the right support and direction enabling them to achieve success in terms of their learning and wellbeing. This is supported by our school counsellor, Christian pastoral support worker, special education teacher and regional support staff with expertise in students’ learning and behaviour. As a school we work to continuously improve our services that promote and support teaching and learning and build effective learning communities.
