Allendale East Area School caters for a wide range of students from essentially a rural and fishing community. We endeavour to develop enterprising students who are confident, innovative, resilient, and outward looking in their approach to life. Our emphasis is on quality teaching and learning, and we have a family atmosphere, with students from Reception to Year 12 working cooperatively with committed and caring staff. Teachers are dedicated to their own skill development and undertake professional learning that enhances their understanding of ways to develop students’ engagement in learning and build relationships. Literacy improvement across the school has been evident in NAPLAN results due to resourcing, staff development and a whole-school literacy agreement. Numeracy is more recently a focus in the site plan and reflecting similar success. Primary students benefit greatly from the specialisation of the secondary staff during lessons such as PE, IT and tech studies. Secondary students have a seamless transition into Year 8 and also their senior years due to the close connections and learning history that staff create with students over their early years. Senior secondary students are well catered for through the wide range of opportunities provided to support them into further study, apprenticeships and the world of work. A focus at the school is Enterprise Education, which gives students the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting projects. These promote self-confidence, self-reliance and community service, and encourage the development of leadership and teamwork skills through camps and other projects. Through leadership programs, such as Active8 Arts, students are involved in the production of school musicals, and the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge. Softball and netball are also successful activities and are run as specialist sports programs.
