Education began at Lenswood Primary School in 1869 and we are still at the centre of the community. Our school is situated in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, surrounded by orchards and vineyards. We have high expectations for our students and we offer many opportunities to develop their skills through explicit teaching, specific literacy and numeracy blocks, and specialist teaching in the arts, science, health and physical education. Sport is highly valued and our students perform extremely well in carnivals including swimming, athletics and bowls. Our students are involved in looking after the native and vegetable gardens they planted and they use the vegetables in cooking sessions. Our school is well equipped and maintained and we are all enjoying having a beautiful new hall/gym. Technology in the school is regularly updated. All classrooms have interactive white boards and students have regular access to computers. We have a strong Student Representative Council and leadership program. We offer our senior students a variety of opportunities designed to move them smoothly into responsible adolescence. A tradition in the school is our graduation dinner. The Year 6 students and parents plan, cook and serve the graduation dinner for the Year 7 students and their parents. We also celebrate student successes in academic, sporting and social fields at the end of year presentation. There is a whole school camp every odd year and the Year 6 and 7 students visit Canberra for a week in even years. Other camps and excursions include aquatics for the Year 6 and 7s in even years and a yearly visit for all students to attend a theatrical or musical performance in Adelaide. We have a strong music program, supported by the Instrumental Music Hub, which students from Year 5 up are able to attend. Students from Year 3 learn to read music and play the recorder. All students take part in choir lessons. Private music lessons in violin, piano, clarinet, flute and saxophone are also available. Belonging is one of our school values..
