Hallett Cove East Primary School is located in a beautiful coastal suburb approximately 25 kilometres south of Adelaide. Our school is unique and innovative in design, consisting of nine houses, with up to two classes or specialist programs operating in each. A wet area, inside toilets and withdrawal spaces are also available for classes to access within each house. The physical environment and facilities of the school itself are of a high quality including a well equipped pavilion, quality playgrounds, large open playing areas and gardens. A new section comprising two covered sports courts, a four-class teaching block and playground that were completed through the BER process early in 2011, have further contributed to an aesthetically beautiful and engaging environment. The current school priorities include Literacy and numeracy, working in teams and wellbeing. The embedding of ICT and science across the curriculum is also a key focus. The school values are respect, responsibility, collaboration, honesty and equity. Our wellbeing programs and processes are based on these values. All students access specialist programs in Japanese, the arts, health and PE. A number of other special programs including SAPSASA, Jump Rope for Heart, swimming and aquatics are also offered to students during the year. Student participation in a range of sports is actively promoted with more than 40 % participating in some form of organised out of school hours sporting competitions, and particularly in soccer and cricket. The development of skills in the use of information technologies is supported through a well equipped IT room, interactive whiteboards in all teaching classrooms, resource centre and Japanese rooms, and class access to both stand-alone and pod computers. The resource centre also has a bank of computers for student access.
