Emerald Christian College is situated in a rural area in Central Queensland. Emerald is surrounded by coalmines and agricultural/cattle producing properties. Emerald Christian College opened in 2001 with 18 students and has grown to now have over 190 students from Prep to Year 10. The College is the only independent college in Emerald and has introduced a middle school in 2007 to help students remain engaged in their schooling during the sometimes difficult adolescent years. Modern classrooms, prep room, recreational areas, playgrounds and off road set down and pick up facilities provide an effective and safe educational setting for our students. New buildings have been constructed each year for the past six years to accommodate our growing student population. The core values, which are at the heart of the college ethos, are GEMS (God, Excellence, Members and Service). When these GEMS are established in the hearts of the students, they develop facets (friendly, appreciative, compassionate, encouraging, truthful, self-controlled). Our mission statement is to educate individuals in a Christian environment enabling them, through a stimulating and dynamic curriculum supported by the teachings of Jesus Christ, to participate meaningfully in contemporary society by providing learning for life. Emerald Christian College embraces a close relationship between school and home, as both institutions work closely together to establish young men and women in sound Biblical ethics and morals. Every student is encouraged to examine and develop a Biblical view of what is real, what is true and what is of value in their lives. As students recognise their identity, we encourage them to diligently use all the resources, talents and gifts that God has given them. Students are taught to acknowledge God as the source of these giftings.
